Front Page, Awards, etc.

Posted by TechFlash - August 29th, 2007

I just began to think about my movies and frontpage, and awards. I dunno why I started thinking about it, but yesterday I kinda began to wish my movies would get front page and maybe an award once in a while, I've worked hard these past 2 years in making sure I make good movies for Newgrounds. And I wish I could get more publicity here on NG, even though claymation really is only popular by artists like Knox. I just hope that sometime in the near future I'll be able to get a front page spot or award, I've gotten decent scores for over a year so far and sometimes even when I look at the front page the scores are worse than mine. Probably just the movies favored by Tom get on front page, that's the thing though. I doubt Tom has seen any one of my claymations besides "Pico: Clayman's Nightmare" which he featured on front page on Pico Day (thanks again, Tom). I just really which I could get more publicity here on NG, as well as other fellow clay animators on NG like BlakTornado, Sonikaos, and Vdub. I just had to tell all that to someone, thanks for listening whoever you are :).

Just a second ago, after reading this, I went to your profile... I was going to watch some of your flashes because of how much work you say you put into them.
When I saw the little pictures that represent the flashes, I realized that I recognize it.
I've seen quite a few of your claymations, they're good!
And I'm not a big portal junkie.
I don't go hunting for good submissions, I just come across them.
I don't remember most of them distinctively, but I remembered yours.
Just goes to show that you have more publicity then you think
:)
Keep up the good work

thanks! I really appreciate it!

wow, well i was having a look at your animations after reading this and noticed how many you keep submitting at an outstanding rate! it's really cool but maybe you could try making longer more detailed animations that will really be noticed and not just passed off as 'just another claymation'. I mean your animations are really good and i personally love claymation but i feel that if you spent a little more time on one animation, you could achieve something really great, i think your capable of doing better than knox if you just get a really good idea and spend alot of time on it. Try and aim for like Wallace and Gromit quality, if you've ever heard of it which you damn well should have!!!! GO Britain..anyway just try a little harder on your next one and make it extra special! gd luck!

thanks for the advice :)!

It's either you get an award/front page or you don't. If you do, good for you. If you don't, keep submitting or give up and go outside.

The bar just gets raised every year. Nowadays, it takes more than a clever idea and passable art skills to get rewarded. It takes a well-coordinated group effort, weeks of hard work, and a bit of luck to make it. And anyways, more and more professional animators are finding the site and showing off their stuff, so don't feel down if you can't compete with people who've went to college and have 7+ years of experience in the field.

Unfortunately, Newgrounds is no longer a place for underdog artists to get discovered. It's just too popular now. There's always the odd submission that gets in by some newcomer, but that's because it's Cartoon Network-quality animation. NG is nearing Hollywood in terms of exclusivity.

You're the one that's been doing this for two years, so I'm not going to tell you what to do, and I'm definately not going to pretend like I have the answers. But maybe it would help if you set Newgrounds on the side right now and focused - I mean, really focused - on what you can do to make your claymations better. Newgrounds will still be there when you get back.
